I'm in the Guinness Book!
When I was a wee little lad, I was enamored with running - particularly the long-distance variety (and Terry Fox and Grete Waitz and Alberto Salazar and Yiannis Kouros) - and with reading - particularly the Guinness Book of World Records (and Encyclopedia Brown and Baseball Digest and Stephen King and Dean Koontz) - and with writing (anything).
When I was no longer wee, at about 10 years old, I set three goals for myself:
1) I wanted to run a marathon.
3) I wanted to own a Guinness World Record.
11 years later, In 1996, I ran my first marathon (in high-tops, with leg-warmers).
14 years after that, I wrote my first book (Bush II, Book I).
15 years after that, in the summer of 2025, I entered the Guinness Book (with my wife and kids!). It was the most fun day ever.
15 years per goal, on average. Not bad. Now I need 3 more goals, which I'll be thinking about, but I'll have to pull them off in less time.
